October 15th

I have been doing some knitting and crocheting and spinning when I can sneak it into all the things that are keeping me busy. Anyway just wanted to turn people on to this adorable pattern, it’s for a doll but I think it would be good for charity knitting πŸ™‚

I added the pattern to Ravelry since I am currently knitting it, it’s so cute. click here for Pram pattern

It’s not free but it’s not an expensive pattern. So far it’s been pretty easy and haven’t had any issues.

It’s the charity crunch time for me. The remembrance service at the hospital where I lost my daughter is later this month and want to be sure I donate enough little knits…

BTW, today is October 15th. It is Pregnancy and Infant loss awareness day. Would everyone join me and my fellow angel moms in our memorial celebration?

Just realizing that I love to make little booties. I guess now that I have my BB girl it’s my right as a mother. I have someone to make them for and I enjoy doing it. I have been challenging myself my knitting some up. It was harder than I thought but it didn’t have to be. I should have just read it more carefully. I decided to make this pair by Patons. I thought they were so cute. I wanted to make them bigger so I made them on size 6 needles. I used TLC White Sparkles. I have had this yarn for a while. My husband loves it so much and has been asking me for a long time to make something for her with it. Because I didn’t understand the instructions this is what happened lol (my very helpful hubby holds the work while I take the picture)!

Apparently there was a point where I was supposed to turn but instead
it said right side facing you and I didn’t understand that all they
wanted me to do was turn the work. It took days for me to figure that
out lol. Here are the booties finished!! I like them they are cute and extra big so they will fit Reli for an extra long time.

I also made this pair of booties Pirate Booties from this blog (pattern download here). I had started these way before I started the Patons booties. I had been dying to make these for months! I started the project and got stuck in the same spot as the Patons. But after completing those I came back to these to finish. I wanted to make these with Simply Soft because again I wanted them to be big enough to fit her for a long time and also went one needle size up but when I went back to the project it was weeks later and so my tension was not the same. The result? Two different size booties. One is HUGE! I guess not too bad I’ll just have to make a match pair for each one. One pair for now and one for later. Another problem I had was with the sole. I don’t have a picture of it but it made my daughters feet look like she had feet like Bobby from Bobby’s World lol (a cartoon from the early 90’s). I frogged the sole and knitted them in the round instead. They turned out so much better the way I did it. Lastly, Instead of doing a skull and cross bones made a space invader on each bootie. I thought it would be so cute and they are.

I just wanted to show this off too. I made this a while back. It’s a little bolero for my little girl. I got the lace pattern from a book. I am not sure what book it was though. I wrote about this lace pattern in a previous blog when I first made a swatch. It came out so nicely. However it was a bit tight. I think I’ll have to make another a few inches bigger. I also have to adjust the edging and make it a bit longer.

Oh one more thing. Two weekends ago we took our daughter to SummerStage at Central Park to see DJ Lance and Brobee from Yo Gabba Gabba! I can’t explain how much she loves this show, it really amazes me. The night before I decided that I wanted to make her a shirt to wear. So I got a picture of Muno doing what he loves to do, eat noodles! I drew his picture cut the pieces out and used them as a pattern.

I cut the pieces out of felt and sewed them on to a plain pink t-shirt. Then had to embroider the chopsticks. That didn’t come out too well. I tried to put the shirt in an embroidery hoop but it wouldn’t fit 😦 So they are not as straight as I’d like. As the noodles I used a small piece of cream colored ribbon that I sewed on. I’m happy with the way it turned out. I would’ve loooove to show her wearing the shirt at the show but ofcourse the camera battery died while we were there. I only have one picture of her from that day. My husband is holding her when she fell asleep while standing online to get in.

❀ My loves.

It’s my first time

These past few weeks have been a little hectic. I have making Precious Memory Boxes for Precious Awakening and making little crochet hats to donate to a hospital where an online friends 6 month old daughter had passed away. She asked instead of flowers for everyone to send donations for the hospital NICU/PICU. So the group that I am apart of online are all going to make donations of hats. So here are a few I have done so far. I experimented a bit with some color and lace.

SDC11996

While I was at it I also took a break to crochet a pair of little yellow Mary Jane’s for a special online friend who is expect very soon! Then two people at church have recently had babies, so there goes another two pairs.

Updating on my beautiful daughter… In one week she began pulling herself up in her crib and we discovered her first little tooth (or might I say fang! It’s sharp) has emerged! I can’t believe how big she is getting and how the time is flying by. Can’t believe she is going to be one in a few months.

So my recent big project that I chose to challenge myself with is a baby hoodie (pattern available free from Lion Brand), so it’s my first time :). I made two different ones. This first hoodie was made with Lion Brand Cupcake yarn (colorway Marshmellow yum) and the entire thing is worked up in garter stitch. It was so easy to make and worked up so quick. It did however sit in a box for a while after the pieces were done because I was afraid to sew the pieces together but when I did and sewed the buttons on it came out just perfect. I made it in a size 3-6 months. It isn’t for anyone in particular I just decided I wanted to do something I had never done before. The buttons are sooo cute. They are little lime green and blue bees. I’m really happy about how this one turned out

This next one (also available for free at Lion Brand) was made with Lion Brand Jiffy yarn in Charcole. This one I made in a size 12 months. This also worked up and this one was harder. I had to pick up stitches on the shoulders in order to knit the sleeves. I finally figured how to do that but did not make it like the pattern asks. I was supposed to make it in all garter stitch (the front and back is done in stockinette) but I didn’t really like it like that. So this is what I got after sewing it up.. The sewing job on the arms are HORRIBLE. I wish I knew how to make it look better. What really threw me off was that I had decreases at the edges of the sleeves and when I sewed it together using the mattress stitch it was soooo hard to figure out where I was supposed to be picking up the bar. SIGH, I’m too embrassed to gift this because of the way it looks. I am thinking to remove the sleeves and either redo them or just remove it and make it into a vest?? What do you think? The other change that I made is that this hoodie is not a hoodie, I just made it into a sweater as you can see. Instead I crocheted a collar. I’m happy with that, but overall it is a disaster. I think that maybe I needed to pick up more stitches for the sleeves, I don’t know 😦

Baby Baby Baby

So much stuff going on since I last wrote. My little girl is starting to call for me… only when she is whiny or crying though. So cute the other night she woke up crying and I was in the kitchen and I heard her say MAMA in the middle of all the crying as I walked in the room. Melted my heart ❀ She’s growing up so fast! I’m very excited to celebrate my first Mother’s with my BB (that’s her nickname). Last Mother’s day was a sad one for me since I was supposed to have Alana.. I’ll still be thinking of her though as always.
A friend of mine had a baby on Easter Sunday, a little baby girl! So I could not help but to whip up a few small gifts for her little one. I made her two pairs of booties and a pair of slippers from the book Precious Baby Booties. It’s a favorite of mine and my go-to book when I need a pair of cute simple booties. In fact my daughters ‘Take me home’ outfit consisted of a pair Lacy booties made from this book. It was my first bootie project in which I had to fasten off, attach and weave in more than one end. They turned out great and lovely enough to grace my daughters tiny feet. All the projects are crocheted. When it comes to making a gift I always reach for the crochet hook since I am just much faster with that than with the knitting.. for now.

I used Red Heart sport in Light Raspberry for the pink ones. It was my first timeΒ  and the last time that I’ll be using that yarn. I didn’t like it’s texture very much. Red heart makes other yarns that are so much softer that I would rather use but most are worsted weights.

For these booties I decided to use a little black to make them a bit edgier. Aren’t they cute? Any baby that wears these can definietly beat up any kid on the playground!

The multi-colored pastel booties are TLC Baby and the colorway is called Naptime. I love to use this particular colorway because it is a bit thicker than their other baby yarns and makes for a nice fabric for a bootie or blanket or whatever you are making.

The washcloth pattern can be found here on Ravelry. It’s a Ravelry download so you will need to have an account on Ravelry to access it. I really like it a lot. They are so quick and easy to make that I made myself some just to finish off the two skeins of yarn I used (Lily’s Sugar and Cream in Strawberry and Peaches and Cream in Pinks and Lilacs).

I have other projects to show and talk about but I’ll save it for the next post. I don’t want to turn this into a marathon blog with a zillion pictures. ‘Til next time!

Reading up

I have been meaning to write a short blog about the library. I haven’t been there in years, I totally forgot how resourceful the library can be. I looked online at the NYPL website just to see what they had and how happy was I to see all the books they had on knitting. I picked up One Skein, 101 One Skein Wonders, 101 Designer One Skein Wonders and, The Book of Yarn. I also later picked up a copy of Son of Stitch and Bitch.
I’m going to have to take these books out again because I have had them for the last three weeks and have barely gotten to read anything with my little girl recent crying spells. I think that she’s beginning to teethe. Anyway, the only ones that are really books to read are Son of SnB and The Book of Yarn. The others are mainly just patterns with not much to read.

So far my favorite is the 101 Designer One Skein Wonders. I love all the patterns in that one the most. The Book of Yarn is interesting from what I have read so far. I didn’t like One Skein much, I just didn’t find the patterns very interesting. The Book of Yarn is very very in depth, it literally talks about everything you would ever want to know about yarn. I felt like I was reading one of my textbooks from Art school, but in a good way.

Anyway so just reminding everyone to take advantage of your local library, they are a great resource.

Anticraft !

Posted in Crochet, Patterns with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on February 8, 2009 by sweetnightmare

I started a project from my copy of the book, Anticraft. I chose the “Apothecary & I [Skull] Trouble” tote bag pattern, it’s actually the whole reason why I bought it. All the other patterns were just an awesome plus especially since now I am learning to knit! πŸ™‚ I found out about the book when I stumbled upon the designers blogsite, Future Girl (link available to the right). Her website is excellent, she has tons of interesting blogs, and lots of tutorials. Who doesn’t love those? They always come in handy.

I have had the book for a while and I finally decided to make the time to make it. I’m planning to use it as a project bag. I picked out the yarns a while back. I had to choose between hot pink and this hot blue. I just really love this color and I think that hot pink and black is so common. It just didn’t talk to me. So the progress has been going okay. At first it was kinda tough. I kept ending up with extra stitches.. that hasn’t happened in a long time to me. I figured out what I was doing wrong and I have happily been crocheting away all week. I finally finished the bag portion of the project yesterday morning. I decided to give the project a break until Monday. It’s when I plan to recruit my mother to help me sew the lining. I’m really just giving her an excuse to use her new sewing machine πŸ˜‰ The lining I got on sale at JoAnn’s for $4 a yard. It’s I guess a kinda faux satin with black frocked stars. Can’t wait to get started (and finished) on that. Other than the lining, I still have to make the handles and I need to embroider what I want it to say.. On the Anticraft merch page they had a few sayings on their stuff that I liked. I think I am going to have it say “Anticraftier Than Thou”. I thought that one was cute. I also liked “I Am the Anticraft”, but I liked the other one better.

Will write more later!

Knitty Weekend

Posted in Knits, Patterns with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 20, 2009 by sweetnightmare

So this past weekend was a weekend dedicated to knitting practice. My practice piece looks like a nice little hot mess but that’s is because I wanted to experiment with a lot of different things, so to give a little understand to what I’ve done here, I labeled the practice fabric which in the end resembles a almost a tie, I thought that was funny how that happened.

Anyway, I used my trusty practice yarn (Red Heart Super Saver yarn in Candy print). Let me explain a little of this piece of fabric. I started off with two knit rows, and then continued by switching to the Eastern European style of developing the stockinette stitch (this is all in the bottom left hand corner). From there I switched over to the continenital style of knitting. I wanted to give stockinette stitch in this style a try again. I have been having trouble trying to figure how

to do it (you can see where my stitches are twisted), so I finally
figured out how to do a continenital purl so I practiced a few rows of
of it. It looks very messy because I was experiementing with it with
knits in some parts, and a few times got it mixed up with Eastern
European style.

Though my practice piece is a total mess, my efforts are not in vain! I finally took a stab at a small simple pattern.. presenting (insert drumroll here).. “My 2 Cents Cozy”, mini change purses. This was a pattern I picked out from my Knit Knack kit by Kris Percival. For whatever reason I was much slower at creating the fabric to make these. I guess because I was just being overly careful not to screw them up. Not too shabby for my first projects πŸ™‚ I feel bold!.. but I am going to stick to a few more simple projects. I still gotta do the ever popular project- a knitted scarf lol.
